SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) -- Residents on Montclair Street in Springfield say this feels like deja-vu. The snow has stopped, but their street still hasn’t been plowed. For one person, that meant missing a full day of work.

Montclair Street is a dead-end side street off St. James Avenue in Springfield. Due to the snow that remains unplowed, only one car can get through at a time.

Andre Martine has lived here for 24 years. He says it’s been a while since he’s seen his street this bad after a snowstorm.

“I didn’t think it was something to be desired. You know, I mean, they could do, I mean, there was a truck down here yesterday, a big truck, but I don’t know what he did, but I guess he made a path here. But right now, only one car can go down every time,” Martine tells us.

Another Montclair Street resident didn’t want to be identified on camera, but they tell us the same thing happens every year. The main roads get cleared right away, but their streets get neglected.

Due to the road conditions, they got stuck in the snow on their own street. They had to call out of work, losing an entire day’s pay, saying, “They need to do something because it’s like this every year. The residents pay taxes, but it doesn’t do anything if they aren’t plowing the street.”

That resident tells us they reached out to the city for help but has yet to hear back.

Western Mass News has also reached out to Springfield DPW Director Chris Cignoli FOR comment but have not yet heard back.

We’ll continue working to get answers from the city. Until then, we’re hearing from more concerned residents on Western Mass News tonight at 6.
