SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – A teenager is facing charges after a reported shooting Wednesday afternoon in Springfield.

Springfield Police spokesperson Ryan Walsh said officers responded to the 0-100 block of Oak Grove Avenue around 3:50 p.m. for a ShotSpotter activation. When they arrived, they found evidence on Oak Grove Avenue and Kenyon Street and property damage on Burr Street and Oak Grove Avenue.

Officers received a description of the suspects from the city’s Real-Time Analysis Center and three of them were soon spotted on Dawes Street. Three 14-year-old boys were detained and a loaded gun was found in one of their waistbands.

Two of the boys were released after a preliminary investigation. The third teen was arrested on firearms charges, but he was not charged with the shooting. Due to the suspect’s age, his name will not be released.

The case remains under investigation
