SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -- City leaders gathered Wednesday morning in the Outer Belt neighborhood to unveil a $250,000 renovation to Tree Top Park. The upgrades include a new walking path and a playground now fully accessible for children with disabilities.

The ribbon cutting came exactly 17 years to the day since the park first opened.

“Thank CPA for providing the funding, $250,000 for this,” Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno said. “But it’s just nice. It’s nice when families can enjoy the playground and certainly the soccer field gets a lot of use, so these are great projects and fun projects for us.”

Sarno also said these green spaces are vital for families who can’t always reach a far-away vacation destinations, calling the city’s parks his own version of the “Riviera” growing up.
