Springfield’s municipal golf courses open for 2026 season
SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - Both of Springfield’s public golf courses opened for the season on Wednesday.
Both Franconia and Veterans Memorial Courses are looking a little different this year. The city has poured $6 million into renovating the clubhouses at both locations, which marked the first major update for the buildings since the 1960s.
Officials said the goal was to match the high quality of the courses while keeping rates affordable for local families. “It’s the professionals that we have, the superintendents, that it’s totally scientific and the way that they get it and understand it and treat it, it’s extraordinary and then we have a great team that does it and we tip my hat to them to make sure that that product is what it is,” said Tom Ashe, Springfield’s Executive Director Springfield Parks, Municipal Buildings, and Recreation.
In addition to the new buildings, the city highlighted its “adaptive golf carts.” These special solo-rider carts allow golfers with disabilities to stay active on the green.
Last year was a record-breaker for the city, bringing in over $2 million in revenue.
Both courses are open now starting at 7:30 a.m. on weekdays and 6:30 a.m. on weekends.
