State awards $350K to support dam removal studies

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - The Healey Administration has awarded $350,000 to fund dam removal studies in seven communities across the state including Easthampton’s Manhan River dam, the Bear Hole Reservoir dam in West Springfield, and the Westfield Reservoir dam in Westfield and Montgomery.
These are significant and high-hazard dams whose removal would either help wildlife or protect infrastructures downstream.
The studies will help support dam owners in gathering information for each dam ahead of any future projects.
