SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) -- The issue of transgender women competing on women’s school sports teams is set to be settled, as the Supreme Court holds hearing arguments on the matter on Tuesday.

Idaho and West Virginia will defend their bans as civil rights attorneys argue they violate the constitution. The Trump Administration will also appear to defend the bans.

The position that the bans are illegal hinges on the equal protection clause in the 14th amendment.

As of now, 27 states have trans athlete bans, though New Hampshire is the only one in New England to have one.
