LONGMEADOW, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – A Springfield man is facing several charges after allegedly trying to break into a Longmeadow home.

Longmeadow Police said they were called to a Pleasantview Ave home early Tuesday morning after the homeowner, who was away, got an alert from a security camera showing someone trying to break into the house. Officers arrived and found a male suspect running into nearby woods.

A K-9 and his handler began to track the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Nathan Gonzalez of Springfield, through the woods and into neighboring streets and they were able to find him hiding in a trash barrel on Edgewood Road. Gonzalez allegedly fought with officers before he was taken into custody. Two officers reportedly sustained minor injuries during the altercation.

Gonzalez, whom police allege also broke into several vehicles in the area, has been charged with breaking and entering a building at nighttime for a felony, breaking and entering a motor vehicle, larceny over $1,200, possession of a Class B substance, trespassing, malicious destruction of property, and resisting arrest.
