WESTFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – A Westfield school was the victim of what police believe was a swatting call.

Westfield Police said Westfield High School officials received a call around 7:55 a.m. Tuesday alleging a possible threat in one of the school’s bathrooms. A shelter-in-place was initiated and additional police officers responded to the school.

Investigators were able to determine that the reported threat was not credible, but out of an abundance of caution, a thorough sweep of the building and school grounds was conducted and the scene was cleared after no threats were found. Normal school operations resumed approximately 30 minutes after the initial call.

“This incident appears to be a ‘swatting’ call,” police explained, adding that the case remains an active investigation and they are working to determine the source of the call.
