SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - While many are still recovering from the recent storm, for some of our neighbors, the impact goes far beyond shoveling out cars and power outages.

The Gray House in Springfield’s North End helps distribute food to up to 650 families every single week and, this week, they got some much needed help to continue their mission.

Their executive director, Isabella Brady-Prankus, told Western Mass News that Sunday’s snowstorm may have disrupted their food pick-up, but they were still able to provide food to individuals in need this week. They used what stock they had left and Rachel’s Table came to the rescue and delivered extra food to distribute. “So, we typically get our food every single week. This week, with the storm, it was a little bit more difficult, but thankfully, we have a backstock of food from whenever we order and we have donations that always come in. So, we always make sure we have food on hand,” she explained. “In case of emergencies like this, where sometimes it’s just we’re unable to pick up some of our food and this is one of those weeks where we might be limited on some of the fresh produce and the other perishable items, but we still had a lot of canned goods that we can still give out and make sure that people are fed for the week.”

In addition to their weekly distribution every Thursday, they also have a special distribution on the second and fourth Fridays of the month for the general public, seniors, and veterans.
