SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - The Thomas J. O’Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center and other MSPCA-partnered shelters are helping their animals find their valentines and their forever homes.

TJO is waiving the adoption fees on all animals that have had to wait a while to find their perfect matches, including any animal that has been in the shelter’s care for at least 30 days. That is why they’ve named the event the ‘Worth the Wait’ adopt-a-thon.

It marks the first time the MSPCA’s 150 year history that it has waived fees for all species in a single event. TJO Executive Director Heather Cahillane explained what kinds of pets will be part of this event. “Several of our bigger dogs are available as part of this event...We have some animals that need some behavior support or potentially some different medical care, so they’re looking for the right fit, people who are willing to have more than just a couch potato and might need to put some work into having a new dog,” she added.

The adopt-a-thon begins Friday, February 13 and runs through Sunday.
