Town of Amherst works on widespread cleanup operation

AMHERST, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) -- Amherst residents face another parking ban as the town works to clear streets, and parking lots, days after the storm.
Our crew witnessed vehicles on multiple main and side roads on Tuesday. However, due to extra cleaning needed, there is an overnight parking ban that will be in effect beginning at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday. This will be the second one in a week for downtown Amherst.
That parking ban means those in this area cannot have their cars on certain streets. Among them are:
Western mass news spoke with Adesina Klein, a Westfield resident who works at Amherst College as a job specialist. She says she parks on Boltwood Avenue all of the time and doesn’t think the ban is a bad idea.
“For lack of better words, it might be a necessary evil, I see the road is really right now, so I would hate for anybody to get hit by a plow or something going by,” Klein explains.
During this upcoming ban, those affected can park their vehicles in any of the following areas:
We also spoke with Amherst resident Bill Turney, who lives on Spring Street, and says so far, he’s had no problems. “They’ve done a nice job of taking care of the sidewalks, both the public sidewalks and the private people around here that abut on the sidewalk. The parking lot is a bit of a mess, but you deal with it,” Turney explains.
The town says anyone who violates the ban will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.
We tried to get in touch with Amherst DPW Superintendent Guilford Mooring, but have not yet heard back.
Now, we did hear that UMass Amherst has cleared pathways and sidewalks just in time for the next semester to start on Thursday.
Stick with Western Mass News, as we will be hearing from a parent in the area, tonight at 6.
