WINDSOR LOCKS, CT. (WFSB) - Travel troubles at airports across the country have drawn some concern from local travelers.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy even eluded to smaller airports closing if the government shutdown continues. Fortunately, Bradley International Airport and Tweed New Haven Airport are not on the list.

Bradley is classified as a medium hub and Tweed New Haven is considered a non-hub airport, exempting them from potential closures.

Hundreds of TSA agents have quit and thousands of others are calling out of work as it has been over a month since they received a paycheck. Security lines at some airports have been a concern for travelers.

“We were here at like 3:30 in the morning or something so we came early because we didn’t want to miss the flight,” said Andi Giombetti of Hamden, Massachusetts. “We flew into Charlotte which went uneventful but then we were in the airport 10 hours because it was really busy and all the flights were cancelled.”

Shannon May-Vernali of Canaan said her flight was cancelled.

“It was cancelled because of they said weather and TSA,” she said. “I was having trouble finding another flight on the same airline so I had to switch and pay for a flight.”

The Department of Homeland Security said the shutdown has caused more than 400 TSA officers to quit and thousands to call out from work because they are not able to afford gas, childcare, food or rent.

Tweed New Haven Airport is asking for monetary donations for its TSA agents.

Senate Republicans proposed a deal to address airport issues that would involve funding the Department of Homeland Security, including TSA but excluding ICE, with the hope Democrats will support it.

Officials at both Tweed and Bradley said they have not been notified of the airports getting shut down.

ICE agents have been sent to some airports around the country where there is a major shortage of agents. Bradley Airport officials said there has been no impact to TSA operations.
