Weeks-long investigation leads to drug and weapons arrests at Springfield apartment

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – Two Springfield residents are facing several charges after a lengthy investigation.

Springfield Police spokesperson Ryan Walsh said over detectives had been investigating the alleged distribution of crack-cocaine from an apartment on the 0-100 block of Summit Street over the past several weeks. On Tuesday, they were granted a search warrant for the apartment.

The warrant was executed Wednesday morning, during which 32-year-old Jonathan Burris of Springfield was detained and officers recovered from him. Burris, who also reportedly had an outstanding arrest warrant, was placed under arrest on charges of fentanyl trafficking (more than 10 grams), possession with the intent to distribute a Class A drug, and possession with the intent to distribute a Class D drug.

During the search, investigators reportedly found an illegal loaded gun, a high-capacity magazine loaded with 31 rounds of ammunition, various ammunition, 82 fentanyl pills, 20 packets of suspected fentanyl/heroin, marijuana packaged for sale, 18.6 grams of crack-cocaine, and more than $3,100 in cash.

Joanna Davis, 69, of Springfield was also found inside the apartment and she was arrested on charges of possession of a firearm without an FID card, possession of a high-capacity feeding device, improper storage of a firearm, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of ammunition without an FID card, trafficking of a Class B drug (18 to 36 grams), and conspiracy to violate drug law.
