SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – A West Springfield man is facing charges after allegedly stealing two phones over the weekend.

Officers were called to a reported armed robbery on the 100 block of Armory Street around 10:40 p.m. Sunday, according to Springfield Police spokesperson Ryan Walsh. Once on-scene, investigators learned that the suspect allegedly stole two phones from two victims while showing a gun before leaving the scene.

While police were on-scene investigation, the suspect, identified as 32-year-old Cesar Vargas of West Springfield, reportedly came back to the gas station around 11:15 p.m. Walsh noted that officers found ammunition in Vargas’s wallet and arrested him. During a search of the area around the gas station, police found two stolen phones and a gun capable of holding 12 rounds of ammunition that was loaded with six rounds.

Vargas has been charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a large capacity firearm, two counts of armed robbery, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and improper storage of a firearm.
