WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – Authorities are investigating after a second person was struck by a vehicle late last week in West Springfield.

West Springfield Police Sgt. Thomas Burke said officers were called to the area of Riverdale Street and Ashley Avenue around 8:15 p.m. Friday after a report of a vehicle hitting a person in the roadway. When they arrived, they saw a 49-year-old man suffering from serious, not-life-threatening injuries and he was taken to Baystate Medical Center for treatment where he was listed Monday in stable condition.

The vehicle and driver involved reportedly stayed at the scene and the driver has been cooperating with investigators. Burke added that speed does not appear to be a factor in the incident and no charges had been filed as of Monday afternoon.

Friday’s incident marked the second time in a week where a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on Riverdale Street. Police said that a man was struck and seriously injured Tuesday morning.

Friday’s crash remains under investigation by the West Springfield Police Department accident reconstruction team, in conjunction with the Hampden District Attorney’s Office.
