Western Mass. fire departments receive safety equipment grants

(WGGB/WSHM) -- More than 300 fire departments across the Bay State are getting funding toward much-needed safety equipment, after the Healey-Driscoll Administration announced $5M in grants.
The Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant program provides reimbursement for purchases of nearly a hundred different types of equipment. That includes wearable items like helmets, gloves, coats, and boots; as well as tools, thermal imaging cameras, hoses, and radios.
About 60 departments in western Mass. have been named as recipients, including Chicopee, Holyoke, South Hadley, Easthampton and Northampton.
