Westfield man arrested in SNAP benefit fraud investigation
CHICOPEE, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) -- A Westfield man has been arrested for suspected SNAP/EBT fraud at a Chicopee smoke shop.
47-year-old Mohamed Yahiya allegedly told customers to use their SNAP/EBT benefits to buy large quantities of Red Bull from Sam’s Club. Yahiya would then buy it back from them at a reduced cash price.
On March 27th, police executed a search warrant of the store Yahiya worked at, Adham’s Smoke Shop in Chicopee, and found cases of Red Bull, as well as cigarettes bearing tax stamps from other states.
Yahiya is facing several fraud-related charges, and this case remains under investigation.
