Westfield stabbing suspected ordered held without bail

WESTFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – The suspect in a Westfield stabbing has been ordered held after a court hearing.
Lauren LeBel, spokesperson for the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, said 48-year-old Jose Alvarado of Huntington is being held without the right to bail after a dangerous hearing in Westfield District Court.
Investigators alleged that Alvarado went into a barbershop on Elm Street in Westfield on the morning of Friday, November 21, stabbed someone several times, and fled the building and drove away. He was reportedly quickly identified as a suspect and was arrested.
The victim, whom LeBel said suffered significant blood loss and knew Alvarado, survived the incident.
Alvarado is facing several charges including attempted murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, and mayhem. He is expected back in court on February 6 for a pre-trial hearing.
