Woman and her 1-year-old child hit in Southampton, driver arrested

SOUTHAMPTON, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - A mother and her young child have been seriously injured after being struck by an alleged drunk driver in Southampton Tuesday night, authorities report.
According to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office the incident happened at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday on Glendale Road in Southampton.
“Upon arrival, emergency personnel located a 39-year-old woman and her 1-year-old child suffering from serious injuries. Both were transported to Baystate Medical Center for treatment,” explained Melissa Sippel, representative of the NWDA’s Office.
We’re told the driver whose been identified as 37-year-old, Jeffrey Russell, from Southampton is now facing a 2nd OUI offense.
He was driving a Toyota Tundra at the time of the crash.
On Wednesday Russell was arraigned in Northampton District Court on the following charges:
He was released on $1,000 cash bail following his arraignment. His next court date is scheduled for late August.
We’re told as a condition of his release, he cannot operate a motor vehicle until he gets his license reinstated.
At this time the incident remains under investigation by the MA State Police, Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, and the Southampton Police Department.
The identities of both the mother and child have not been released.
