WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -- A woman and child were injured in a serious crash in West Springfield.

West Springfield Police said officers responded to the area of 1002 Piper Road around 5:20 p.m. Tuesday for a rollover crash with people still inside the vehicle.

When police arrived, they found a 61-year-old female driver, who was suffering from serious, life-threatening injuries. She was taken to Baystate Medical Center where she remains in critical condition as of Wednesday morning. Investigators noted that a preliminary investigation indicates that the woman was not wearing a seatbelt when the crash happened.

The woman’s five-year-old grandchild was also in the vehicle and was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

No charges have been filed. The crash remains under investigation by West Springfield Police, in conjunction with the Hampden District Attorney’s Office.
