WILLIAMSBURG — Highland Ambulance transported a woman in her 30s to Baystate Medical Center with serious injuries after police believe she drove her sport utility vehicle over the double yellow line on South Street, crashing head-on with a school bus.

Williamsburg Police, Fire Departments and EMS responded to the area of 117 South St. at approximately 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. There, police found the severely damaged Toyota RAV4 and a school bus with significant front-end damage.

The bus was transporting two students attending Hampshire Regional High School. Williamsburg Police Chief Denise Wickland said neither the students, nor the bus driver were harmed.

Wickland said the incident remains under investigation by both the Williamsburg Police Department and the State Police Reconstruction Team, though a preliminary investigation suggests that the SUV crossed the double-yellow line and struck the bus.

A portion of the road was closed for approximately three hours as police investigated the crash site.
