GREENFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) -- A local family is asking for your help in assisting a 10-year-old who was diagnosed with a spinal cord tumor. Western Mass News has more on how you can help Juliet and her family as they continue to find the best treatment for her recovery.

Juliet is just like any other 10-year-old girl, but she’s got a skill most kids her age don’t. She can make bracelets with one arm. “The only thing going through my head right now is how this pattern for the butterfly looks like an owl while it’s on the loom,” she tells us.

Juliet was diagnosed with a spinal cord tumor back in December of 2023. Her mother Michelle Sevigne telling us, “It was a really hard Christmas to deal with that and her brothers and make it so magical but be so scared and know I had to bring her the morning after Christmas and also explain to her where we were going and why.”

After emergency spinal surgery attempting to remove the tumor, Juliet was left with no function or sensation in her right arm and hand.

“I have a tendency to get really calm in the scariest of emergencies, so it was terrifying... I didn’t know if I was going to lose her, if she was going to lose her life, complete unknown with the most important thing in your life,” Michelle explains.

Since Juliet’s surgery two years ago, there has been little progression in the growth of the tumor, giving the family time to look at other forms of treatment.

That includes potentially traveling to Texas to try something other than chemotherapy and more surgery. With the help of friends and family, a GoFundMe was created.

“That really changed everything for us, that really helped out a lot,” her mom continues

Despite only having her left arm to make the bracelets, Juliet continues to do what she loves, as well as spend time with her service dog Rosie.

“Some patterns are too tricky for me to do, but I can do a lot,” Juliet says. Her mom chimes in telling us, “Juliet, when she puts her mind to it, she will just do it. She has zipped up her winter coat with one hand, and I don’t even know how she did that.”

Juliets story has touched the hearts of the Greenfield community. The bracelets she made are now being sold at the Freedom Cafe in downtown Greenfield.

The Freedom Cafe owners have even added more bracelets to help with all the proceeds going towards Juliet and her family.
