Alleged killer of DYS worker found incompetent to stand trial

SPRINGFIELD — David Burgos, accused of killing a state Department of Youth Services worker while Burgos was a juvenile, is not competent to stand trial, a judge says.
According to records in Hampden Superior Court, Burgos, 15 at the time he was housed at the Tinkham Road facility, was ruled incompetent on Monday. He allegedly killed late DYS counselor James Hillman as Hillman was helping the boy settle into a room there.
According to police records, Hillman was choked to death by Burgos on June 30, 2021. Records say investigators recovered video from the facility that showed Hillman cried for help from his co-workers. None came soon enough.
