Amherst fire expected to burn through Monday as 230 search for housing

AMHERST — Firefighters continued Sunday to extinguish a massive blaze that destroyed a large apartment complex next to the University of Massachusetts while the 232 displaced people started replacing belongings and searching for new housing.
Watching heavy equipment crews tear down what is left of her smoldering apartment building at 57 Olympia Place, Danielle Polak said on Sunday she “got lucky” in a way.
