A crash between a car and a tractor-trailer in West Bridgewater led to a man’s death on Sunday morning.

Carlos Monteiro, 33, of Taunton, died as a result of the incident, Massachusetts State Police said on Sunday afternoon.

The crash happened shortly before 7 a.m. on Interstate 93 near exit 28 in the southbound lane.

Preliminary information suggests that the car rear-ended the trailer, state police said.

The driver of the car suffered fatal injuries, police said.

Officials closed the two lanes of the highway for about two hours to investigate the incident.

“We offer our condolences to his family and loved ones,” state police said in a statement.
