New tax relief initiative announced in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Certain Springfield homeowners may soon be seeing some tax relief from the city.
On Monday, Mayor Domenic Sarno, joined by other city leaders, announced a new initiative, helping eligible, low-income homeowners.
According to the Mayor’s Office, this special “Taxation Aid Committee and Fund” is entirely supported by donations.
Starting in fiscal year 2026, the money will provide targeted tax relief for homeowners who don’t qualify under current tax exemptions, like disabled veterans, those legally blind, or surviving spouses over 70 years old.
