New video shows moments after suspect crashes following police pursuit

WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -- New video obtained by Western Mass News is offering a new perspective after a blue SUV was struck by a suspect fleeing from a police pursuit Wednesday on Riverdale Street in West Springfield.
The video shows what appears to be police officers running to the SUV that was hit during the pursuit. The SUV is not upright until what appear to be police officers flip it over.
The victim of the wrong-way crash remains in critical, but stable, condition, according to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office. A GoFundMe page describes her as “a loving mother, daughter, and friend, whose life changed in an instant.” Authorities have not publicly identified her.
Police said 37-year-old Carlos Maldonado of Springfield had two outstanding warrants and a stolen gun when officers spotted his Jeep on Route 5 Wednesday morning. When police tried to pull him over, Maldonado allegedly hit a police cruiser and fled, authorities said. He drove the wrong way before crashing head-on into the blue SUV.
Maldonado ran but was quickly caught and police reportedly found the stolen gun in his vehicle.
Three officers were hurt and taken to the hospital. Maldonado was also hospitalized. Maldonado has a criminal record that dates back to 2007.
