Over 200 displaced after multi-alarm fire hits off-campus housing in Amherst

Over 200 people have been displaced after a three-alarm fire ripped through an off-campus apartment complex near the University of Massachusetts Amherst late Friday night, according to multiple sources.
The fire occurred at around 8:15 p.m. at an off-campus construction site adjacent to the privately-owned Olympia Drive Apartment complex, according to a university statement posted on its website. Overnight, the fire spread to the apartment complex, where the majority of tenants are UMass Amherst students.
Fire officials from surrounding towns, including Amherst, Pelham, Hadley, Leverett and Northampton responded, the Massachusetts Daily Collegian reported. Red Cross vehicles arrived after 1 a.m. to assist.
