Trump calls Marjorie Taylor Greene ‘ranting lunatic’ amid Epstein files dispute

President Donald Trump said he is withdrawing his support of a Republican who has been one of his fiercest defenders as a feud escalates over the Jeffrey Epstein files.
On Friday, Trump called Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene a “ranting lunatic,” “wacky” and suggested he would support “the right person” should they run against her in a Georgia Republican primary.
The following day, Trump wrote on social media: “Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Green [sic] is a disgrace to our GREAT REPUBLICAN PARTY!”
The public feud has escalated in recent days over his administration’s handling of the Epstein files as the House considers whether to release them.
Speaker Mike Johnson said he would put the bill to a vote this upcoming week.
On Saturday, Greene took to social media herself to respond to the president’s statements.
"I am now being contacted by private security firms with warnings for my safety as a hot bed of threats against me are being fueled and egged on by the most powerful man in the world,“ Greene wrote on X.com. ”The man I supported and helped get elected."
“Aggressive rhetoric attacking me has historically led to death threats and multiple convictions of men who were radicalized by the same type rhetoric being directed at me right now. This time by the President of the United States,” she added in a lengthy post.
She also appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday, telling Dana Bash that the feud “has all come down to the Epstein files.”
“I believe the country deserves transparency in these files, and I don’t believe that rich, powerful people should be protected if they have done anything wrong,” she said.
“I have no idea what’s in the files. I can’t even guess,” Greene added. “But that is the question everyone is asking is why fight this so hard?”
Greene also said that the president calling her a traitor was “hurtful” in a social media post.
The bill, known as the Epstein Files Transparency Act, would make the Justice Department release all unclassified records, documents, communications, and investigative materials related to Epstein.
