AMHERST, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -- More than 230 UMass Amherst students are still waiting to learn when emergency financial help will arrive, four days after losing everything in the devastating fire at Olympia Place.

New aerial video taken Tuesday shows the aftermath of the massive blaze. Crews may have finished putting out the flames, but the destruction remains extensive across the apartment complex. Several students returned to the scene Tuesday, with some visiting for the first time to witness the devastation.

Northeast Fire Investigation continued to scope out the scene and is still working to determine how the massive fire started.

The university has asked for help through contributions to the UMass Amherst Foundation Student Care and Emergency Response Fund. The fund, which has been in place since 2020, collects and distributes emergency financial support to students impacted by unprecedented events. UMass spokesperson Emily Gest said the funds have not yet been distributed because this is an evolving situation and the school is still assessing student needs.

Western Mass News has reached out to the owners of Olympia Place, but have not yet heard back.

UMass has created this webpage to provide the latest details and information for the campus community and you can click here if you would like to donate to the UMass Amherst Foundation Student Care and Emergency Response Fund.
