Vehicle fire spreads to Southampton garage

SOUTHAMPTON, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -- Crews are still actively working to clear the scene of a fire in Southampton.
The town’s fire chief told Western Mass News that the fire started in a vehicle and, according to the chief, the call came in around 7:40 a.m. Friday on Middle Road and then crews were on-scene a few minutes later.
Apparently, the fire started from the car in the morning by the resident that lives in this house. They went inside for a moment and a person jogging by actually notified the homeowner that his car was on fire and the fire then eventually spread to the garage.
Fire officials confirmed that two people, who were inside the house at the time, did get out okay and there are no injuries reported. However, there were eight cats that were saved from this fire.
Investigators are still working to figure out exactly why the car caught fire in the first place. The house itself did sustain some water damage and the fire really only spread to the garage for the time being.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
