Wrong-way driver killed after colliding with 2 cars on I-195 in Somerset

A 69-year-old woman was killed Thursday night after she collided with two cars on Interstate 195 east in Somerset while driving the wrong way on the highway, officials said.
Massachusetts State Police responded to the crash around 7:45 p.m. Thursday after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a wrong-way driver on the highway leading to a crash, the Bristol County District Attorney’s office said in a statement. Arriving first responders found three vehicles involved in the crash.
Police determined the wrong-way driver had hit two vehicles travelling in the correct direction on the eastbound side of the highway. One occupant of each of those vehicles was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the district attorney’s office said.
The third vehicle, a white Toyota sedan, which was going the wrong way, was being driven by 69-year-old Gail Lopes, of Tiverton. Lopes was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to the statement.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
