2010 Amherst baseball champions inducted into WMass Baseball Hall of Fame

The 2010 Amherst baseball state championship winning team are among six inductees into the WMass Baseball Hall of Fame as part of the 2026 induction class, announced on Thursday.

The Hurricanes claimed the Division 1 crown after beating Xaverian Brothers, 3-2, at LeLacheur Park in Lowell. Kevin Ziomek had an incredible performance for Amherst, going the distance on the hill while striking out 17 batters.

The Hurricanes finished the season 17-7. Amherst’s title was its first and only state championship to date.

Other inductees include former UMass pitcher Chad Paronto, umpire Bill L’Heureux, longtime Ludlow fixture Bob Bohl, MLB agent and UMass professor Steve McKelvey and Berkshire Eagle sports columnist Howard Herman, who earned the Gary Brown Award for Sports Media.

This year’s induction ceremony will be held on Friday, June 5, at Wyckoff Country Club in Holyoke, at 6 p.m.
