Fans pack Fenway Park for opening day despite Red Sox slow start
BOSTON (WGGB/WSHM) -- The Red Sox enter their home opener Friday with a 1-5 record, but fans still packed the streets around Fenway Park ahead of the game against the San Diego Padres.
Crowds filled Jersey Street before the 2:10 p.m. first pitch with longtime fans and first-time attendees making their way to the ballpark.
Andrew Marinaro has attended the past five consecutive home openers and he said the traditions make the day special. “Seeing the former World Series teams being honored on the field is awesome. I love the flyover. The big flag coming down. Just those things that really signal the start of the Red Sox season. That makes it special and it’s always special,” he explained.
The Padres enter the game with a 2-4 record.
