The Smith Vocational girls basketball team took home a dominant, 53-27 victory over Athol on Thursday night. Defensively, the Vikings started the game on point, not allowing a single point through the first quarter.

Even after the second quarter got underway, the defensive success for Smith Voc continued. Allowing just 57 points over their last two games combined, the Vikings have truly locked in on keeping their opponents off the board.

The defensive focus helped lead to consistent offense throughout all four quarters, led by a 19-point night from Savannah Fredette. The freshman continued her impressive season, knocking down eight shots and three free throws in the win.

Mallory Radwich also made her way into double figures for Smith Voc., hitting a pair of 3-pointers in a night where she scored 11 points. Grace Sampson helped round out the big win for the Vikings with eight points of her own on Thursday.

With the win, Smith Voc. improves to 11-5 on the season, looking to win its third game in a row on Monday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m., on the road against Baystate Academy.
