The Smith Voc girls basketball team held on to beat Franklin County Tech, 38-33, on the road on Thursday.

The Vikings led, 22-17, after two quarters of play, but both squads totaled 16 points in the second half as the Eagles nearly completed the comeback.

Mallory Radwich swished in 12 points as Smith Voc’s top scorer. Sofia Zina (six points) also contributed on offense for the Vikings.

Smith Voc moves to 2-0.

Boys basketball

Easthampton 51, Athol 40 — The Eagles soared to a victory in their home-opener on Thursday.

Patrick Larson, Chase Canon-Smith and Raemon Mathurin combined for 40 points for Easthampton, led by Larson’s 18 points on seven made shots, including three 3-pointers. Canon-Smith and Mathurin each had 11 points.

The Eagles sit at 2-2 overall after the home win.

Greenfield 68, Hopkins 49 — Grayson Thomas’ memorable night for the Green Wave spelled trouble for the Golden Hawks in their road loss.

Thomas concluded the game with 39 points, including five 3-pointers, as the star of the game.

Chace Earle put up a respectable 21 points in the affair for Hopkins, followed closely behind Harry West’s 16 points. The Hawks trailed 36-18 at halftime.

Hopkins fell to 2-2 after the defeat.

Commerce 78, Granby 58 — The Red Raiders’ high-flying offense was too much for the Rams.

Two Commerce players surpassed the 20-point threshold, while Granby’s top scorer was Ray Colon with 15. Brandon Carillon also had 11 points for the Rams.

Granby dropped to 0-3 on the season.

Gateway 43, St. Mary’s 31 — The Gators secured win No. 1 on the season in their first game of the year.

The road victory for Gateway counted as a Tri-County South league game.

Smith Academy 46, Mohawk Trail 33 — The Falcons offense came to life in quarters two and three to take the home victory.

Smith outscored the Warriors 15-7 in the second frame, then 20-12 in the third, vaulting the hosts to a 2-1 record.
