Hugo Gonzalez injury: Celtics rookie leaves Sixers game with ankle issue

Hugo Gonzalez left the Celtics game against the 76ers on Tuesday night with a left ankle sprain. The rookie wing suffered the injury late in the third quarter with just over a minute remaining on the defensive end. Gonzalez still managed to corral a steal on the possession but was not able to finish the layup on the fast break, awkwardly traveling on his shot attempt after suffering the injury.
Jordan Walsh immediately subbed Gonzalez out of the game after the sequence. The Celtics said Gonzalez would be questionable to return after suffering the injury.
Gonzalez was having another productive performance off the bench before suffering the injury, posting five points, two rebounds and a steal in six minutes. He also made both of his field goal attempts.
If Gonzalez has to miss time, the Celtics will likely turn back to Baylor Scheierman for minutes in his place. He has not appeared in the last two games following the emergence of Jordan Walsh, who has seen his minutes skyrocket since last week.
Gonzalez entered Tuesday’s game averaging 3.1 points and 2.1 rebounds in nine appearances with Boston. The team selected him with the No. 28 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
