No. 18/17 Boston College men’s hockey blanks Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. — The No.18/17 Boston College men’s hockey team completed the weekend sweep over Vermont with a 5-0 victory on Saturday evening at Gutterson Fieldhouse. Louka Cloutier made 21 saves, including 11 in the third period, to earn the shutout.
Lukas Gustafsson, Luka Radivojevic, Jake Sondreal, Teddy Stiga, and Will Vote each finished with two points for the Eagles. Gustafsson, Sondreal, and Vote all lit the lamp along with Nolan Joyce and Will Moore.
Boston College improves to 4-4-1 overall and 2-2-0 in Hockey East while Vermont drops to 3-5-0 overall and 1-3-0 in league play.
The Eagles opened the scoring midway through the first period with two goals just 1:06 apart. Vote got things going with a power play goal, deflecting a shot by Gustafsson from the point and putting it into the goal.
Just a minute later, Sondreal ripped a one-timer from the point that breezed through the Catamount defense and past their goaltender into the net to double the lead.
Boston College kept the momentum up in the second period with two more goals. Midway through the frame, Stiga laid the puck off for Joyce for a shot from the slot inside the top corner to push the lead to three. Later in the period, Gustafsson got in on the goal-scoring with a one-timer from the slot that zipped off the stick into the top left corner.
The Eagles added one more in the third when Brady Berard shot a puck off Moore that deflected and went past the Vermont goaltender to make it a five-goal game.
Vermont had three power play opportunities throughout the game and recorded seven shots on target on the man-up advantage, but Cloutier turned away all the attempts.
BC and UMass square off for a home-and-home series next weekend. The series starts Friday at Kelley Rink before Saturday’s tilt at the Mullins Center.
