Revs hire United States U-20s coach Marko Mitrović as club’s newest head coach

Three weeks after their season came to an end, the New England Revolution have a new head coach in Marko Mitrović.
Mitrović, a 47-year-old native of Serbia, will take on his first job as a lead club coach.
“It’s an honor to join the Revolution and become the new head coach of this storied club,” Mitrović said in a statement. “I’m grateful to the Kraft family, Brian Bilello, and Curt Onalfo for trusting me to lead the team, a responsibility I take very seriously. I will work relentlessly to deliver a team the fans will be proud to support. I’m excited to get started.”
Most recently, he coached the Unites states Under-20s and Under-23s teams.
He brought the U-20 squad to the World Cup quarterfinals this year and the U-23s to the Olympic quarterfinals in 2024. He also spent two years as the Under-19s coach for the United States.
“We’re really excited to welcome Marko Mitrović as head coach of the New England Revolution,” Revs Sporting Director Curt Onalfo said in a statement. “During the interview process, Marko’s tactical acumen and modern coaching philosophies set him apart.
“It’s crystal clear that he shares our ambitions to compete for trophies in 2026 and beyond. His extensive coaching experience at both the club and international levels, including on some of the world’s biggest stages, have prepared him well for this pivotal role.”
Mitrović also gained plenty of experience coaching internationally for his home country of Serbia. He previously served as the head Under-15s coach and an assistant for the nation’s Under-20s team.
At the club level, Mitrović has spent time as an assistant in Serbia, in the English Championship for Reading, and for the Chicago Fire.
As a player, the midfielder started out at Red Star in his hometown of Belgrade. He spent the next 16 years playing in Azerbaijain, Hungary, Kazakhstan, and Serbia, before retiring in 2010.
Mitrović replaces interim coach Pablo Moreira who led the team for the season’s final four matches after the club parted ways with Caleb Porter.
