Sports Briefs: Amherst youth baseball heads into Koufax playoffs as top seed

The Amherst youth baseball team capped off its regular season on a high note, defeating West County, 9-6, in PVYBL Koufax division play at Amherst Middle School on Thursday.
Sean Lucien led the way on offense, going 2-for-3 with a double, triple and two RBIs, while Jack Bajnoci served as the Hurricanes ace, surrendering just two runs from the mound in 4 1/3 innings of work for the win.
Amherst will be the No. 1 seed when playoffs begin next week.
Northampton 16, West County 0 — The Blue Devils snagged their third straight win, plus their fifth in six games, in the blowout on Tuesday.
Northampton’s Mason Hean and Miles Cameron combined for a no-hitter, the second time the Blue Devils have accomplished the feat this season.
At the plate, Northampton nabbed 11 hits altogether, paced with multi-hit performances from Cameron, Dylan Lawrence-Riddell and Austin Sojkowski.
The Blue Devils will open the postseason at home on Monday, July 20 at Florence Athletic Fields at 5:30 p.m. Opponent is TBD.
