The Northampton Legion Post 28 baseball team is red hot entering the postseason as it won its sixth straight game to close out its regular-season slate with a 2-1 victory over Westfield Post 124 on Monday.

Post 28 potted both runs in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly from Pat Millin and a RBI double from J.J. Scanlon-Dean.

Harry LaFlamme secured the win on the mound, tossing five innings while allowing one run and five hits. Matt Vassallo threw the final two innings, not allowing a run.

Northampton will host Belchertown Post 239 at Arcanum Field on Thursday to open the playoffs.

First pitch is set for 5:45 p.m.

USTA

Two Northampton residents were selected to participate in the USTA Coaching Serving All: Aspiring Coaches powered by WeCOACH, a program designed to assist collegiate women tennis players who wish to enter the professional coaching ranks.

Paige Grice and Sofia Shen, who served as graduate assistant coaches at Smith College this past season, were selected for the program. Grice and Shen will participate in a five-session virtual program, plus an in-person leadership event at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.

Grice and Shen make up two of the 30 total nationwide participants in the program.
