UMass to celebrate anniversary of 1995-1996 men’s basketball team

AMHERST, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – UMass Athletics will soon take a moment to celebrate one team that chose to Refuse to Lose.
On Saturday, February 21, UMass men’s basketball will honor the 30th anniversary of the 1995-1996 team’s run during the program’s annual Alumni Day at the Mullins Center. During that season, the Minutemen, led by coach John Calipari, finished with a 35-2 record, were Atlantic 10 regular season and tournament champions, and made an NCAA tournament run to the Final Four, where they were defeated by Kentucky 81-74.
UMass Athletics noted that “most members” of that team are expected to return as the team is honored throughout the game with video highlights, messages, and an on-court appearance by the returning team members. Former players interested in attending can register here.
The Minutemen will tip-off against the Buffalo Bulls at 6 p.m. Tickets, including a special Final Four pack of value section tickets for $19.96, can be purchased online.
