What Patriots rookie is doing — and what he’s not doing — with first TD ball

Terrell Jennings set a difficult precedent to follow last week.
After scoring his first NFL touchdown in the Patriots’ win over the Falcons last week, Jennings said he planned to give the ball — which he was still carrying — to his mother.
It got great reactions. People love big tough athletes who are still dedicated to mom.
It was like when the Patriots decided to come out for the Super Bowl XXXVI as a team, without individual introductions. For several years, lots of teams, including the Patriots, did the same thing for fear of looking bad.
So when Kyle Williams scored his first career touchdown in the Patriots win over the Buccaneers on Sunday, a reporter asked him what he was doing with the ball, perhaps expecting a similar answer.
Williams made sure to praise his mom for all her support, but the rookie receiver said he’s keeping the ball. He took it 72 yards for a critical score in Sunday’s win and he’s taking it home with him.
“It’s going to stay with me. That one’s dear to me,” he said. “Hopefully, if I get another, I can give it to my mom and everything, and my dad. This first one is sticking with me.”
A surprised reporter followed up.
“Mom doesn’t get the first one?"
Williams cracked a big smile, but didn’t cave.
“Nah, Mom don’t get the first one. I worked for this,” he said. “But I appreciate mom. She’s been along this journey.”
