The Amherst Hurricanes stormed to a 13-2 victory over the Chicopee Galaxy (five innings) in a Western Mass Suburban Baseball League Koufax Division game on Wednesday at Amherst Middle School.

Grant Charlebois set the tone early for the ‘Canes, leading off the first inning with a triple and finishing the day with three hits. Charlebois also anchored the defense, turning in a stellar four-inning performance behind the plate.

Graylin Bovaird added to the offensive output with two singles and two RBIs, while Keenan Hamilton and Agho Mankin each contributed a double, combining for three RBIs.

The Hurricanes broke the game open in the third inning, batting around the order to score seven runs on five hits.

On the mound, starter Walker Austin was sharp through three innings, fanning six batters. Jack Bajnoci came on in relief and was equally effective, striking out five of his own over the final two innings to seal the win.

Despite the score, Chicopee flashed defensive brilliance in the second inning with an unassisted double play.

The Hurricanes next play Palmer on Monday, May 4 at home.
