SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - A big difference in how today has started compared to the last week. It was much colder, with many of us starting in the teens this morning. Winds making it feel even colder.

Today will continue to remain cold and windy. Gusts will range between 25-35 mph. While temperatures this afternoon are in the upper 20’s to near 30°, wind chills will range in the teens and 20’s.

Tonight, winds will start to lighten up and clouds build in. Lows fall into the 20’s. We’re expecting some snow for Saturday which will get going before sunrise Saturday.

During the day Saturday, we’ll see periods of light snow lasting through the day. This as low pressure passes offshore.

We’ll likely see a solid 1-3 inches of snow across Western Massachusetts. Closer to 1-2″ in the valley locations, and closer to the 2-3″ range for the hills. Watch for slick spots Saturday.

Snow comes to an end by the early evening Saturday, with high temperatures reaching the middle 30’s.

Sunday is looking like a dry day with mostly cloudy skies, highs in the middle 30’s. Seasonable for January.

We have been watching the development of a coastal low, which had the potential to bring snow to New England. With how models are trending, it looks to be a miss for us here in Western Mass, as the low passes just too far offshore. Central and Eastern Mass, especially The Cape should see some snow.

With that, for us, we’re just seeing high and mid-level clouds mixed with sunshine on Sunday.

Then a pattern change really sets in for next week. A trough builds in over the northeastern U.S. for next week, which will set in a colder pattern for next week. We’ll likely see highs only ranging in the 20’s and lower 30’s each day. Breezy at times too, leading to colder wind chills.

Otherwise, it will be partly to mostly sunny each day.
