Massachusetts residents are bracing for a weekend of dramatic weather changes, as a calm and cool Saturday will quickly be replaced by a fast-moving storm overnight, bringing a soaking rain followed by a blustery, bone-chilling Sunday.

Saturday is expected to have dry weather and lighter winds across the Commonwealth, according to the National Weather Service. The morning will be marked with welcoming sunshine, though clouds will steadily increase through the afternoon as rain approaches.

Boston will see a high near 46 degrees and even the higher elevations of Worcester are expected to reach the mid-40s.

Along the coast, the Cape and Islands are expected to have a high near 45 degrees, while Western Massachusetts, including Springfield, will top out near 46 degrees.

In the Berkshires, the day will stay partly sunny with a high near 36 degrees, though the chance of showers mainly arrives after 5 p.m.

A quick-hitting system is expected to sweep across the state Saturday night, bringing rain from west to east between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., the National Weather Service reports.

This soaking rain is expected to be gone before Sunday morning, giving most areas about half an inch of rain. This brief period of rain may be accompanied by rising temperatures, especially near the South Coast.

Once the rain moves out, the weather story completely shifts, with Sunday becoming dominated by a surge of cold air and strong winds, leading to a blustery day across Massachusetts.

Wind gusts are expected to be stronger, making a much colder feel as temperatures fall throughout Sunday afternoon.
