SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Today, we began with mostly cloudy skies and some sun this morning. An approaching cold front brought more clouds, with periods of rain on the way.

We’ll see periods of rain from the late morning, all the way through the evening. Varying rates of intensity, meaning at times coming down as light drizzle, other times steadier or moderate rain.

It’s also cooler and breezy today with highs ranging in the low to mid-60’s. Winds gust between 20-30 mph at times too. All said and done, we should pick up anywhere from a quarter to three-quarters of an inch of rain. Beneficial rain, as parts of Western Mass are under moderate drought status. This will also lower our brush fire risk, and briefly, our pollen levels.

Tonight, as rain ends, we’ll gradually dry out and remain partly cloudy. It’s cooler as lows fall into the middle 40’s.

On Thursday, we’re drier and cooler with highs ranging in the lower 60’s under a mix of sun and clouds and a lighter breeze.

Upper 50’s to around 60° on Friday under a mix of sun and clouds. Perhaps a hit or miss shower in the afternoon, but the majority of the day is dry.

This weekend, showers are possible for Saturday, and Sunday, Mother’s Day, looking nicer. Sun and clouds with highs in the 60’s and lower to middle 70’s.

This is followed by more rain chances and cooler air once again heading into next week.
