Rain in the Valley, Snow in the Hills this Evening

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Rain and snow are overspreading western Mass with mainly rain in the valley and mainly snow across the hills. It will continue through about 8-9 before winding down. The valley may end as a bit of wet snow before ending. Temperatures will stay in the 30’s mainly above freezing. The hills will pick up 1-3″ of accumulation with coatings in the valley.
A cold front moves through later tonight with partial clearing and gusty winds. Temperatures fall into the upper 20s late at night then do not come up much on Thursday with highs freezing. It will be windy too with gusty up between 30-40 mph in the valley and up to 50 mph across the hills. This will bring wind chills down into the single digits and teens.
**Wind Advisory in Effect for the hills and Berkshire County from 10 am Thursday through 10 am Friday**
Friday will remain cold and windy but wind will relax in the afternoon. Highs will once again top off near 30.
The weekend starts dry and not as cold with highs in the middle 30’s on Saturday.
Another clipper may bring us some flurries or a touch of light snow Saturday night into Sunday morning. This system looks to remain fast and flat with minor accumulations. Perhaps a coating to 1″ mainly south of the Mass. Pike.
It is still something to watch but the fast northwesterly flow will likely scoot this system along preventing it from developing enough to give us anything substantial. Behind this system another shot of Artic cold moves in for the start of next week.
