SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - It was a chilly, but quiet start to our Tuesday. Today will likely be the nicest day of the entire week.

We’ll see mostly sunny skies, light winds and highs ranging in the 40’s. Very nice for January standards. Then our pattern turns more unsettled.

Later tonight, a clipper system comes through that will bring us some brief rain and snow showers overnight. Luckily, it is brief, so by the time we wake up Wednesday, it’s already out.

Wednesday will then feature mainly cloudy skies with a few spotty showers. Highs on Wednesday ranging in the 40’s, so still mild, just featuring less sun.

Thursday, we’re watching the development of a coastal low offshore, along with low pressure to our west, which may bring the chance for a few rain and snow showers.

Right now, things are not looking overly impressive, but rather just unsettled. We’re looking to see a few rain and snow showers early Thursday morning, mainly before sunrise. Low pressure passes too far offshore to bring big snow, and the other low to our west isn’t strong enough.

We will see some rain in the valley, perhaps ending briefly as light snow. Light snow in the hills. We’re talking scattered coatings in the valley, and coatings to an inch or two in the hills.

Rain and snow ends early Thursday, then it’s blustery and turning colder as temperatures fall throughout the day.

By Friday, it’s colder, mostly sunny, and breezy with highs ranging in the middle to upper 20’s.

The weekend looks to start off good. Temperatures rebound Saturday. It’s mostly sunny with highs in the upper 30’s and lower 40’s. Then another chance for some rain and snow showers early Sunday.

This would be followed by a colder and breezy start to the following week.
