Winter weather arrives early in Massachusetts: What to expect this week
As holiday decorations start to appear, winter weather is arriving just as early in Massachusetts.
On Monday, Massachusetts residents can expect to wake up to a foggy, misty overcast morning. By the afternoon, rain is expected across the commonwealth.
The Berkshires could be cold enough for brief snowflakes late this afternoon, the National Weather Service predicted.
Then the winterlike temperatures arrive.
Overnight temperatures are expected to “crash to widespread subfreezing readings by dawn,” the weather service reported.
Tuesday’s temperatures are expected to continue to be around the upper 20s with "gusty northwest winds making for a biting cold." This could include more snow in the Berkshires.
“Add a couple layers for this winterlike chill if you’re headed outside,” the weather service warned.
Some areas, however, like the Cape and Islands, could get to about 40 degrees.
The rest of the week is likely to see highs in the upper 40s and lows in the 30s.
